About Us
Foundations Ministries—known as The Foundations—is a Southern Gospel ministry based in Greeneville, Tennessee. Established in July of 1992, the group was born out of prayer, obedience, and a shared desire to minister rather than merely perform.
Co-founders Ronnie Thompson and his son Stephen Thompson traveled together in a regional quartet beginning in 1988. While grateful for those opportunities, they sensed God leading them toward something deeper—a ministry centered fully on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. After much prayer and seeking the Lord’s direction, they stepped out in faith to begin Foundations Ministries.
The group’s name is anchored in Scripture:
“For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
1 Corinthians 3:11 (KJV)
The Foundations regularly minister throughout Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, remaining sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit and willing to go wherever God opens the door.
The Foundations primarily minister in church services, revivals, homecomings, and special events, and have also been blessed to appear at regional festivals and gatherings such as the Apple Festival (Erwin, TN), Iris Festival (Greeneville, TN), the Grand Ole Gospel Reunion, and the Castlewood Annual Gospel Sing (Castlewood, VA).
Musically, The Foundations present Southern Gospel that blends beloved hymns, timeless classics, and meaningful modern songs, all centered on Scripture and testimony. Every service is approached prayerfully, with the goal of being a complement to the church or event, supporting the pastor’s vision and reinforcing the message of the Gospel.
When you invite The Foundations, you are not just booking a group—you are inviting a ministry that seeks to:
- Lift up Jesus Christ
- Encourage believers
- Strengthen the local church
- Create space for the Holy Spirit to work
Above all, The Foundations desire that hearts leave encouraged, faith strengthened, and lives drawn closer to Christ—standing firmly on the only sure foundation, Jesus Christ.
